Hi all...
After reading a new member's post and Andy's answer to it, I realized we all use acronyms quite often. Those of us who are lucky (???) enough to have been around here for a while sort of take for granted that everyone knows what we mean, but thinking back to when I was new at all of this, I realized how confusing it can be for new people...so, I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread explaining all of the acronyms we use regularly. Please feel free to add to this list. I'm sure I'll miss quite a few. Here goes: Diseases: ALL acute lymphocytic leukemia CLL chronic lymphocytic leukemia CML chronic myeloid leukemia CNS central nervous system DLCBL diffuse large B cell lymphoma fNHL follicular non-Hodgkins lymphoma HD Hodgkins lymphoma (4 subtypes) NHL non-Hodgkins lymphoma (many subtypes) MCL mantle cell lymphoma SLL small lymphocytic lymphoma Stages Stage I NHL is present in one group of lymph nodes or in one body organ. Stage II NHL is present (on one side of the diaphragm) in two or more groups of lymph nodes, or an organ and 1 or more group of lymph nodes. Stage III NHL is present in lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm. Stage IV NHL is present in many groups of lymph nnodes and has spread to body organs such as the liver, bones or lungs. Treatment Options BMT Bone Marrow Transplant (autologous BMT-your own marrow; allogeneic BMT-someone else's marrow MUD a transplant using a matched unrelated donor SCT stem cell transplant Chemotherapies and Monoclonal Antibody Treatments BEAM busulfan, etoposid, ara-c, melphalan CHOP cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine, prednisone COP cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisone EPOCH etopside, prednisone, vincristine, cyclophosphamide (cytoxan), adriamycin ICE ifosfamide, carboplatin, etoposide MOPP nitrogen mustard, vincristine, procarbazine, prednisone R Rituxan General Terminology BMA bone marrow aspiration BMB bone marrow biopsy BMT bone marrow transplant GVHD graft vs host disease HDC high dose chemotherapy--often used to condition one before a BMT Ig Immunoglobulin (IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, IgM) IV intravenous--into a vein Mab or MoAb monoclonal antibodies (i.e. Campath-1H, Rituxan, Bexxar) MUD matched unrelated donor of bone marrow General Acronyms A asymptomatic B havingsymptoms of disease Bx Biopsy B/P Blood Pressure CBC Complete Blood Count CR complete remission (or response) CS Clinical Stage CT Cat Scan (computerized tomography) Dx Diagnosis GP General Practitioner: Doctor within NHS (UK) HCT Hematocrit The percentage of red blood cells in the blood. Thanks Kathy!! This is a big help, adding to my favorites. I've been around awhile, but had forgotten some of the ones that aren't used often. Thanks for always looking out for us.

Thanks Kathy, these are helpful. One thing though, sll stands for small lymphocytic lymphoma, not leukemia.

Sue,
I could add it...it is one of the subtypes. Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere with all of the subtypes of NHL? Kathy
