Default Quotes/Inspiration

I am a quote junkie...here are a few that I've found that inspired me to keep on keeping on.

We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." - Romans 5:3

The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.

If I did not believe in life, if I were to lose faith in the woman I love, if I were to lose faith in the order of things, even if I were to become convinced, on the contrary that everything is a disorderly, damned, and perhaps devilish chaos, if I were struck even by all the horrors of human disillusionment-still I would want to live, and as long as I have bent to this cup of life, I will not tear myself from it until I've drunk it all!
~Dostoevsky The Brothers Karamazov

"Midway along the journey of our life
I awoke to find myself in a dark wood"
~Dante Alighieri, opening lines of The Divine Comedy

In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there was within me an invincible summer.-Albert Camus

"Examine the lives of the best and most fruitful people and peoples and ask yourselves whether a tree which is supposed to grow to a proud height could do without bad weather and storms: whether misfortune and external resistance, whether any kinds of hatred, jealousy, stubborness, mistrust, hardness, greed, and violence do not belong to the favourable conditions without which any great growth even of virtue is scarcely possible? The poison from which the weaker nature perishes strengthens the strong man - and he does not call it poison."
Nietzsche from the Gay Science

"Be patient and tough; someday this pain may be useful to you."
Ovid
(I "stole" this from Brian )

and for the survivors out there...

VENI VIDI VICI
-Julius Caesar

I am sure you all have your own...Let's hear it!

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience
in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able
to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror.
I can take the next thing that comes along.'
You must do the thing you think you cannot do." --Eleanor Rosevelt.

funny you should mention the Churchill quote. I got a card just the other day from a friend that had that quote on it

I got "keep on keepin' on" from a Bob Dylan tune "Tangled Up in Blue", but now that I think about I think it is Dazed and Confused too

I read a Sci-Fi book many years ago called "Joy" that had a quote:

I love quotes, too, Darrel. If one could make a living at it, I'd have been a philosopher!

Here are some of my favorites:

We are what we repeatedly do – Aristotle

What is to give light must endure burning - Viktor Frankl

A mind is a fire to be kindled, not a vessel to be filled – Plutarch

Man is born broken. He lives by mending. The grace of God is glue - Eugene Oneill

And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you - Friedrich Nietzsche

He who has a why to live can bear almost any how - Friedrich Nietzsche

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle - Albert Einstein

The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places - Ernest Hemingway

Best,

Kim
