I'm eternally grateful to be receiving Neulasta from Amgen and Rituxan from Genentech, at no cost. These lifesaving drugs are breathtakingly expensive, and if I had to pay out of pocket, I simply wouldn't be able to. The social services director at my hospital made all the arrangements for me.

Wow Linda thanks.

This is another post I'd sure like to see a "sticky" attached to.

I believe the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will also provide up to $500 a year to patients to defray costs. That may be a drop in the bucket compared to some of the costs of treatment, but any bit helps I suppose. Contact your local chapter for details.

I'm also up the 'sticky' on this one.

With battling the beast itself, financial worries are a toll that nobody needs.

Thanks Anjou!!!

I'm just wondering, is the Amgen Reimbursement Connection only available in the States? I've browsed through the website and read "Eligibility for Benefit" and can't seem to find anything that says it's strictly for USA patients. Because I've been using Neustula (4 injections) and they are a total of AUD$8848 but because it wasn't administered on ward, I was billed as an outpatient.

My medical insurance covers everything in ward, but I have a limit of AUD$300 a year on medications and apparently Neustula counted as such. My fifth injection, the ward pharmacist heard about my limit and was horrified, so she administered that in-ward and gave it to me just before I was discharged.

It's a huge sum (it comes to almost $25,000 in my own money - Malaysian ringgit - and you can buy a small car in my country) and I am just wondering whether am I eligible. My family can afford to pay, but just barely. I am definitely not eligible for any kind of financial assistance in Australia (other than my student medical insurance - which thankfully covered all of my chemotherapy and hospital stays) being merely an overseas student with no permanent residency or any relatives here.

So I'm just wondering whether could I give the assistance a go - although I doubt it.
