Default Things people say!

I think I might write a book on "What NOT to say to a cancer patient" such as:
1. Oh no! a friend of mine died of that!
2. THAT doctor...I know a patient of his who died like a dog
3. Oh, I hope it is not THAT, my sister died waiting for a transplant
4. You're getting chemo! It is chemo that kills you, not the cancer

I am sure the insensitivity is unintentional but please!! Any one else had stupid stuff said to them?

I'm sure we can all think of awful things that were said to us and you'd be able to write a book. Unfortunately those are not the people who would buy the book!

I always love the "that's the BEST cancer to get." As if any cancer is good to get.

YES! We've gotten that one at least once a week.

Hi Ali: I ran into that myself. It is one thing when other people say that but when your family says I think they made a mistake that is another form of denying what has happened.
It just amazes me how people can be so cruel.
Well what can we do. Just keep on going.

Most people just don't understand and are ignorant of the possible impact of what they are saying. I try to remember that and laugh it off. You know the line from Mary Poppins: "A spoonful of sugar makes the mecicine go down," well just try to remember that and find the humor.....somewhere. Overall, I think people are well-intentioned. Hugs, PacaMom
