Default Having a nightmere day!

Hi
Last week I had a check up with a doctor, having got the all clear a couple of months ago. I had a chest XRAY and a blood test and the results were normal.

He felt my neck where the tumors had been and said like the scan two months previously had said that it was just scar tissue remaining.

Two days ago I thought I felt a new node come up on my neck. There had always been a small one raised that hadnt gone down with the chemo but the scan showed it to be of no concern. However I'm fairly certain this is a new one.

I phoned the cancer ward to see if I could book an appointment but spookily one had already been booked for me last week by telephone, but the person had no idea who had booked it.

I cant face the prospect that somehow the cancer never went away and I will have to go through this all over again. On top of this i'm due to fly back to Canada next week with my fiance to start a new life etc. I have celebration drinks all booked with friends and family and now I have this doubt again.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. There is nothing more unnerving than finishing treatment and then having the fear of remaining disease hanging over your head.

I don't know your oncologist's style or your relationship with him, but I would think that if he felt it were something to be concerned about - or that it should be checked further - he would have said something during your appointment

Since you don't know who made the appointment, it's hard to read too much into it. Maybe you could call the doctor's office (his nurse???) and see what you can find out so that you don't worry yourself crazy until the appointment.

Hang in there!

-Sandy

Thanks,

I had never met the doctor who examined me last week, he was one of the underlings, but seemed compitent enough.

I did go to my GP yesterday to get some advice, and she said she felt only one node mesuring 0.5cm, which I already knew was there. The lady at the onocologists office also said the appointment had been booked by phone, and therefore it was unlikely that one of the doctors would have booked the appointement. Might be an admin error, wierd though...

My fiance and I remain pretty agitated and touchy as we really need this to be clear so we can get back to Canada. The support network I have in Britain is beginning to fall apart and I cant face another six months or so here

Thankyou.

Am just of to the hospital now and hope this has all been a storm in teacup, I mean I was told it was all gone just last week!

On a seperate note I just wanted to explain my thought on cancer treatment on the NHS in Britain. My chemo treatment was excellent, and the nurses were really supportive. However I feel slightly mift at the lack of communication I got from the doctors. On the very few occassions I have met a cancer expert (An ornacologist I think?) they have puzzled ove the latest CT scans PET etc and said they 'think' i'm clear. Last week the young doctor opened his email to look at my XRAY results in front of me having had no look at them before I came into the room.

I know I have been fortunate to get rid (fingers crossed) of hogkins after only three cycles, but then again I feel a bit like a guine pig obviously most people have a full six months chemo plus radiation. I did think that following my PET scan in April I would have had a CT scan in July instead of a chest XRAY (where I never had any disease) and a quick feel of my neck and stomach.

Anyway rant over, I have been well looked after and very lucky and hopefully this is all part of a silly paranioa

I had a similar experience with a PET scheduled that I didn't make. I thought my onc re-reviewed the reports and found something he overlooked. It was an admin mix up, since I make my own appointments with a different Scan company.
